Are you looking to break free from your current position in search of something more rewarding and meaningful? If so, you should think about what it is that you are after exactly. If you would like to help people and gain knowledge about what makes all humans tick, a career in psychology would be a great way to achieve both!

What could be more interesting than observing and studying the way people behave? Psychologists study the behavioral patterns of people and how they interact with others in order to identify and diagnose social or mental disorders. In order to do so, you must have extensive behavioral training from certified professionals.

In order to become a professional psychiatrist or any other psychological counselor, you will need to first get your four year Bachelor’s degree in the field of psychology. This will go over the basics about the field and get you started. Upon graduation, you will need to enroll in a Master’s degree program in order to become a certified counselor.

Once you graduate with your Bachelor’s degree, it is optional whether you would like to move forward you’re your Master’s degree or not. If you choose to, you will be able to counsel those in need of help. There are clinics for battered women as well as children that employ psychology professionals to be on-hand for patients to speak with in order to work out their issues.

If you do obtain a Master’s degree and would like to pursue counseling on a larger scale, you could open up a private practice and acquire your own patients. You may work in a group of professionals or on your own. Having your own practice has limitless opportunities for income as well as helping others in your community who need it the most.

Psychiatric hospitals employ psychology professionals in order to evaluate and monitor patients. They may come in for counseling sessions or need to be watched in order to evaluate whether they are a danger to themselves or others. You may have the opportunity to break through to a patient and set him or her up on the road to mental health treatment.

It’s been proven that going to school and earning your degree is a great way to ensure a successful future, but how will you pay for it? A Bachelor’s degree alone can cost up to $60,000. If you move forward with a Master’s degree, it will cost around $25,000-$30,000 at least. If you are having a hard time swallowing those numbers, perhaps you should seek out financial aid before enrolling. There are scholarship programs as well as student loans available to those trying to cover the cost of their education.

Psychological health has gained recognition in the past fifteen years or so after the stress and the rate of mental illness have reportedly been on the increasing. Public awareness of mental health is also increasing as people are taking an interest in the psychological aspects of how the mind reacts to deal with stress or illness. Health psychology, a relatively new field, has gained momentum as patients are looking to gain insight into the way their mind works, and how it affects their body systems. Stress is known to cause physical symptoms such as high-blood pressure and digestive upset and is a leading contributor to heart disease.

Health psychologists work with patients to reduce stress and increase benefits by using multiple methods. Health psychologists differ from other psychologists in the sense that they use the bio-psychosocial model to focus on addressing how biology, psychological issues and social issues influence health affect the problem social .

Clinical psychologists mainly focus on preventing psychological distress; cognitive psychologists are aimed at understanding mental processes; developmental psychologists study psychological changes over a lifetime; and social psychologists focus on how behaviors are influenced by other people. Health psychologists take into account all of the above, but also take into consideration disease prevention, the mind-body connection and even issues pertaining to why patients sometimes make self -destructive choices.

Becoming a health psychologist requires an education in psychology, combined with knowledge of the body and health in general. If a student is interested in pursuing a career in health psychology, it is first necessary to go to a regionally accredited college to earn a bachelor’s degree. Majoring in psychology is recommended, and it is useful to take elective courses such as abnormal psychology, social psychology, behavioral therapy, and community psychology in combination with an internship or work experience in a psychological or health setting.

Obtaining a master’s degree is also recommended as it furthers the level of expertise in health psychology. While pursuing health psychology in graduate school, numerous opportunities are available to gain knowledge and professionalism through practicum, internship and supervised research endeavors.

Health psychologists often work in multiple of medical environments including clinics, hospitals, private practice, schools, universities, rehabilitation centers and more. Salaries vary and depend on several factors such as work setting, qualifications, degree and position held.

Getting the academic training that is needed to pursue health psychology can be a challenging but worthwhile process. With excellent academic skills, interest in research and a love of people, health psychology may be a rewarding experience.

Argosy University offers a wide selection of bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree programs in a variety of psychology concentrations at 19 locations across the nation.

Psychology is a subject of study that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Psychology is a science that deals with human behavior as well as non humans – animals. Its study finds its roots in biology and touches on many areas in sociology, trying to seek a relationship between the brain functions and the behavior or the relationship between the environment and the behavior generators. There are many areas in which one can specialize since the subject is so vast and nowadays, more and more areas of life need the application of psychology.

The importance of the psychology and why one is secure by building a career in the subject can be seen from the fact that since 1960, there has been a big increase in the students who pursue psychology and have become a part of the competition on jobs that are psychology related. To be precise, the number of students opting for a masters in psychology has gone up 6 folds, a trend that was not observed earlier. It has also been observed that more than two thirds of the students graduating with masters in psychology get jobs in fields which are outside psychology and only about a third are employed in jobs which are directly related to psychology. A large number of those employed after graduating with masters in psychology work on data collection and analysis in various firms and institutions, both in the government circles and the private sector.

When we look at the trend of job projections and growth the area of psychology, there has been a great percentage increase in demand for people with psychology degrees. According to a survey conducted in 2001 by APA Center for Psychology Workforce Analysis and Research (CPWAR), 73% of the people who graduated with degrees in psychology were able to be employed in the areas they first chose to work in, and 75% were able to get jobs within 3 months of graduation. The trend has gone up since then and there are many more areas where psychology gradates are much needed.

One can build a career in the subfields of psychology. For example, one can take on Evolutionary psychology where you can study how human thought, feeling, and behavior are affected by evolutionary aspects like mutation, selective fitness and adaptation. You can also study Clinical Psychology where to will get knowledge to be able to deal with emotional and behavioral disorders. You can also go for Cognitive and perceptual psychology, Developmental psychology, Educational psychology and many other subfields.

Psychological science is studying the way that people think, behave and feel. This study of human demeanor and nature is conducted in groups, communities, or solo. Each form of practice has it’s purpose and could be assigned as the doctor understands what works best for the patient. Some might find themselves in several forms of therapy. Psychiatrics on the other hand deals with the emotional aspects of a mentally broken person. The help that is granted by these professionals can give a stable platform for many of these people to begin their lives. Often times a prescription for drugs, such as anti-depressants, anti-anxiety and anti-psychotics are prescribed. While this sounds very similar to psychology there are profound differences. The most obvious difference is that in psychology there rarely is the prescription of drugs.

For those of you who would like to pursue the many careers in psychology you will need to have the appropriate educational avenues covered. You should also have an idea of which branch of psychological science that you would like to specialize in. Just like many other service oriented careers, they are a wide variety of avenues you may take and psychology is no different. It would be impossible to understand and master the concepts of the entire field. The best way to achieve having a foot into the door of psychology is to study the diverse courses that deal in the broad spectrum of psychological science. Once you have had some exposure to the field then you can move onto some fieldwork with a better focus of where you want to go. Once you have done some de facto work you will know if you are suitable for looking into careers in psychology. As you begin to qualify you can see which of these careers in psychology will interest you the most.

One of the careers in psychology that you might find of interest is that of child psychology. This branch of psychology deals with the responses that certain children have begun to experience due to some event that is occurring or has occurred in their lives. It then moves to understanding this event and changing the emotional and behavioral characteristics associated with this event. A good child psychologist will be able to interpret and treat the problem so that the youngster can begin to deal with it in a sensible way and find their balance in life. As opposed to the often times destructive actions one might take.

To be successful in the assorted careers in psychology you should be dedicated to serving people with their routine life problems. One of the biggest hurdles on might need to overcome is not taking their problems on as your own. These problems will need to be handled with care, understanding, detachment and patience. For the person who has these traits finding good careers in psychology will not be a problem.

Psychology has always been a highly popular field of study for higher education students. A psychology degree offers a number of benefits which can be applied to a great deal of different fields. It also provides the opportunity to get advanced degrees like doctorate or masters degrees and to learn more about yourself and your connections and associations. With the continually expanding popularity of online psychology degrees, you now have more options than ever to pursue this path of education.

Psychology is in actual fact the study of human behavior from a intellectual viewpoint. When a person says or does something, what caused them to say or do it? What brings out that behavior in them? Why does this person with this specific upbringing have a different reaction than this other person with different experiences and patterns? The terrific thing about studying psychology is that when you move forward down this educational path you are going to be unlocking the doors of obscurity to your own personal actions as well. You will have the ability to improve your relationships and personal interactions by having a better understanding of yourself and others that you are dealing with.

Despite this, most people take psychology in order to build their careers before thinking about themselves. One path you could take would be to become a corporate or company psychologist. This isn’t providing therapy for the company staff, this is evaluating a business through the view of organizational behavior. This means that you work with the company to enhance conditions and adjust the environment to yield better results and interoffice cooperation and satisfaction. Psychology offers itself to a huge range of applications and interesting research studies and experiments are always being performed to learn more. Of course there are also independent psychologists, therapists and counselors who get together with clients and patients to discuss their life and to help them solve problems.

Furthermore, on completing an online psychology degree you can pursue career paths in the areas of law enforcement or in the social services. Criminal psychology is also a growing field, especially in today’s times. As you can see, there are many different career paths you can take. With online bachelors degree programs available you now have increased flexibility in pursuing any of these careers. You can maintain your current job while studying to gain an improved standing and a new line of work. In addition to this, accelerated|accelerated bachelors degree programs can be completed in as little as two years.

There are even more advanced degree programs, including both masters degree programs and doctoral programs in psychology. A masters or PhD is usually necessary if you would like to have your own practice or if you aim to pursue therapy as your career. But generally, an online bachelor degree in psychology is the most popular. An online education in psychology is easier to obtain than ever before. With so many different options in both your career and life, earning an online psychology degree can assist you in many different ways. Chances are you will improve your personal life and obtain a more interesting career at the same time.

There are many careers that we select are ones like police officers, school teachers, doctors, astronauts, cowboys and movie stars. And most of us as children probably never really understood what a psychologist does. This is a career that performs a priceless service to the world. If you like this career, here are more excited information for you.

Understanding a Psychologist

Psychologists use their skill and expertise in various fields like management, health, law, education and even sports. This is because people from every field need counseling and psychological help. Essentially, a psychologist should have very good communication and interpersonal skills.

As a psychologist, you should be able to connect emotionally with patients to help them deal with their problems. What any individual psychologist does depends on their level of expertise and interest. A school or clinical psychologist or one with a private practice can set their own hours. They do not have to work long hours like the psychologists who work with hospital and government organizations do.

Another aspect of a psychologist’s job is conducting tests and experiments. These help them to understand their patients and their behavior.

Training and Education

It is not enough to just have formal training – it is important to back up that training with experience and practice in the field. A graduate degree is a must for every psychologist; a bachelor’s degree in a particular field of expertise to be precise is mandatory. People who want to become school psychologists have to earn special degrees by completing three years of graduate school and a one year internship.

Those who want to become clinical psychologists or counseling psychologists with a private practice and those who want to get into teaching or research require a doctorate or PhD after their Masters degree. This takes up to seven years to acquire.

Licensing is a big part of becoming a psychologist. It is necessary for psychologists to be certified and have a license before they can start their practice. The American Board of Professional Psychology certifies and awards those who have excelled in psychology. Anyone who wants to apply for a psychologist’s license has to pass a National Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology. This test is popular among those who have completed their Masters degree in Psychology. This gives them the advantage of licensed psychologists. Remember that psychiatrists are also physicians, but psychologists are not.

Getting a job as a psychologist is a tedious process. You can either apply through agencies or school placement offices. If you want to start your own practice, then seek help from a professional association. For listings of job options professional journals, ads, Internet and newspapers are the best place to look.

Scope and Pay

It has been forecasted that the jobs for psychologists will grow and increase at a faster rate than most other jobs. This depends on the kind of psychologist you are, your skills and your qualities. Psychologists practice in the field of healthcare, in drug and substance abuse clinics, schools and public and private organizations, and especially in social services. Organizations and companies also use the expertise of the psychologists to understand consumer behavior and help them with marketing techniques.

Psychology is never a boring career. To be successful in the assorted careers in psychology you should be dedicated to serving people with their routine life problems. The more you love your career, the better you do it well.
